Portable food sounds like it’ll be best for your busy lifestyle:
- pre packaged nuts/meats/cheeses
- hand held fruit like apples, bananas, mandarin oranges, kiwis, pears, peaches, plums
- vegetables like cherry tomatoes, sugar snap peas, baby carrots, mini bell peppers
- barebell protein bars are delicious and high in fiber and protein
- fairlife protein shakes
Costco has a great selection of portable bulk snacks that have clean ingredients and are minimally processed. Archer beef jerky sticks, egg bites, etc.
Changing your diet will change your life. You’ll have more energy and sleep better!
I suppose beer, bourbon, wine, corn chips and coffee don't count as fruits and vegetables. Too bad. Eat a steak or two instead of some powder off the drug store shelf. Take a multi-vitamin once a day. Bring a sandwich from home -- Spam, deli ham, tuna, egg salad, chicken salad, hamburger, peanut butter (with or without jelly). Listen Kid, when I was on the beat a lunch hour was only 5 minutes and the restaurant was the driver's seat of my car. The food was probably not what is called "healthy" now, but I'm still here. Of course, there's a lot of us who aren't. Take care of yourself, buy good sandwich stuff at the store, make your own sandwiches, try to find at least 10 minutes in the day to eat a sandwich in more than two bites. Keep the faith.
What is your water intake? Buy a water bottle or jug to drink more water and if you can get those pre made smoothies those help too. I would start there and get vitamins to take as well. But really make time and prioritize your health first. Stop eating the gas station food get you more salads and lean meats to eat.
Always have nuts in the car. Grab a bag of tangerines and keep those on hand as well. A box of Cheezits.
You can get a case of premier protein at Costco for $30 (it's super sweet, but doable, especially if you mix it with coffee or milk).
Please don't get food at a gas station. Take a little time on your day off to plan for the week. Keep a cooler in the car and have sandwiches, noshy stuff. Make a good salad with cabbage (the crunch is very satisfying and it keeps longer).
And yes, stay hydrated!
