This is why pay transparency laws should be in all states. The salary range should always be posted in the job listing and the details of the that range should be discussed in the initial contact. Sounds like they wasted yours and their time😑
From what I have experienced, the company appreciates posting the range, it can still allow for flexibility based on experience.
Yes, with the recruiter.

Thanks for your feedback .
Yes, this should be at the end of the first call with the recruiter. If they don't bring it up, you definitely should to ensure both of you are aligned with salary expectations.

Thank you for the insight. That is actually what I wish had happened in my situation. If the range had come up by the end of the first call, the expectations would have been clearer before going through several interview rounds. In your experience, do recruiters usually wait for candidates to state their expectations first?
Ask what the range is, that is my VERY first question
Usually the recruiter will provide a range or estimate based on your experience. If not, they will ask what you are targeting from a salary perspective and then highlight any benefits that you may want to take into consideration.

Comp should be one of the details and expectations explained from the start

Thanks for sharing this. In my case, compensation only came up after several interview rounds, which is when the gap became clear. If the expectations had been outlined earlier, it probably would have saved time on both sides.
Always make sure you know what the compensation may be early in the process. Otherwise people will string you along and waste your time before letting you know they intend to lowball you. You don't need to get into money as your conversational icebreaker, but definitely during the first interview.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. That was exactly the challenge here. After several rounds, realizing the compensation gap made me rethink when that conversation should happen. Do you think hiring teams intentionally hold off on sharing the range early?
I think the recruiter should openly state if your current salary needs are within the salary range. There is no reason to waste anyone's time if the business isnt prepared to make a offer based on their needs or objectives. I know businesses haven't been as upfront but that's what I would do.
