Would you rather have WLB or grind at something that’s interesting? It really depends on where you’re at in life at the moment. A few years ago, I made the switch to strategy consulting because I had no major responsibilities and I loved the work. Now, I have a kid and I would rather focus on WLB even if the pay/progression is not where I would like it to be.
As you progress through your career, the hours will likely get worse and you’ll become even more siloed in your industry. I wouldn’t count on your management team as a constant - and definitely not your projects.
Some factors you should consider are: does the money and WLB outweigh your disinterest? If you found a more interesting industry, but with worse WLB, would the interesting work outweigh the increase in hours?
What consultancy firm gives you wlb!
