Advice needed!! Have 8+ years of compliance/legal/in house experience (not privacy law except HIPAA). I really want a Privacy Counsel role so I took and passed the CIPP/US and CIPM exams this past year. I’ve been offered an Associate Director job at PwC. Is this a good stepping stone to a Privacy Counsel role? How long should I expect to work at PwC before I could apply to Privacy Counsel roles??

Hi! I’m a Senior designer (8+years XP) with also a short experience (<2years) in Product management and Team Management.
I’m in a recruitment process for a Product manager position that seems very exciting to me, but the company didn’t give me their salary budget yet. My question is: do you think I can pretend to a senior-level salary given my profile, like I’d do if the position was Product designer? Or should I think of potentially having to downgrade from my current salary?

All things equal, which is viewed as more important for a prospective employer (Privacy Compliance): Law License (via Bar Exam) or CIPP/U.S.? Asked another way, which of the two candidates (assuming the candidate only had one of the two designations currently) is an employer more likely to hire? Trying to determine which of the two to prioritize and take first, working in this space (have JD).

Senior privacy associate in BigLaw considering a move in-house. Would love to get some data points regarding in-house comp. I realize that a move in-house will entail a significant pay cut, and was wondering what is the highest you’ve seen for in-house privacy (or tech trans plus privacy) positions requiring less than 10 years of experience? (I am assuming they would be at FAANG?) My BigLaw total comp for this year would be $395k- just trying to prepare myself for what the pay cut will look like

Closed on a large acquisition this year, brought in international subs. GDPR is now all topics of conversation and I feel like I’m talking other department leaders of a doomsday “we can never get compliant” ledge. I know it’s a big lift, but it’s just a different law to figure out compliance with. Am I being too naive? Anyone have anecdotes, checklists, or advice on this?

If you are an experienced lawyer (15+ years out of school) but have only recently started doing privacy work (2-3 years), what level privacy roles do you apply to or have you had success in getting? Should I be willing to take a more junior attorney role since I don’t have years and years of privacy experience? Will companies pass over my resume because I’m too experienced? I’m currently in-house and only interested in in-house roles.

Having major imposter syndrome still. I feel like the minute I finally have a grasp, something changes. The law and nuances just seem overwhelming. Maybe it’s just a lack of guidance/uniformity in the US. I’m not sure if I feel this way because it is simply the nature of the work or because I’m just not capable.
