So you’re losing money on the interest or are they paying you back for that? This is crazy!
That’s not cool. Calculate how much you’ve lost and bring it up to management
Which company are u working for???
Will suggest you to raise it up to your managers and mention you are experiencing cash flow issues from this / financial difficulty
I mean, assuming you get paid either biweekly or semi-monthly, usually companies pay you back in the pay period AFTER the pay period within which you submitted your expenses (assuming you got the necessary approvals in a timely fashion).
If you’re struggling because you don’t have enough cash to pay the credit card bill you’ve racked up, there’s a couple options beyond just asking them to reimburse you faster (your finance team can only do so much).
1) ask the company or a manager to cover at least the room charges. It’s not crazy to think a new hire out of college can’t cover something like this out of pocket. I would explain the situation to them — at least until you can build up a nest egg from your paychecks to start covering on your own.
2) save up your cash. What are you spending it on if you’re gone half the month? On a 95k salary, 8 grand should come in a few months (assuming roughly 1500 in rent/month and acceptable spending on groceries/eating out half a month).
I think that makes sense, and I’m glad you’re finding a medium ground in the interim!!!! I’m a huge advocate for asking for things when you need it (whether that’s your situation with finances your company is burdening you with or just asking someone to help with a blocked task on a project) — and honestly no ask is too “stupid” or “lowly” when you’re coming from a genuine place! Fingers crossed you’re able to relieve some of that debt!!! 🤞
Are you able to get a corporate credit card for your expenses?
No. Only managers are allowed to have corporate cards
Doesn't solve the problem at hand, but with all this credit card spend I would take advantage of some credit card sign-up bonuses or put it on a card that gives good points/reimbursement after so much spend (airline/hotel)
I do. I have a marriot and American Airlines card so I definitely am racking up travel points
Outrageous!
I occasionally have bouts of "frequent travel", and 50% (two weeks a month, right?) is "frequent travel" by anyone's definition. My company therefore provides a company-paid credit card, which I reconcile with receipts monthly.
You're financing their business expenses, and much as I value peace and harmony in the workplace, I see this as blatantly abusive. I'll assume you're taxed on the reimbursement? Shame on them, and I'm sorry you're going through this.
I'd be upfront with management, telling them you had no idea the role would require such a substantial cash outlay on your part just to conduct business. And frankly, I'd be looking elsewhere - I can't imagine working like that, no matter how much I was making.
