I currently work on the underwriter services team and it’s all data entry work mostly. It’s getting repetitive so I’m looking to progress. Other than this, I don’t have any other experience. Any recs on what I can do to move into actual underwriting?

Yes, the position is 'Technical Assistant' but they recently changed our "dept" title to "Underwriting Services". We're currently not hiring but I have seen posts from other companies with this title. I actually previously only had sales experience but I was able to land the job just because I'm good at data entry. Since you have experience on the claims side, I'm sure you'll be a great candidate for such positions!

Have you talked to anyone in your company and expressed your desire to move up? That might be a good starting point. And you might be able to do some networking and ask the underwriters what helped them move up. They may have some good advice on upskilling and so on.

Thank you for this advice. I talked to my manager based on this and they told me they’re in the works of creating a program where we can grow from UW services to UW. I’ll be getting the opportunity to try out for this program!

Hey guys. I have been applying to Amex for the past 1 year. Tried applying on the portal, through referrals and even hr consultants reached me regarding the roles since I have a relevant profile. But not once have I been shortlisted or called for an interview. What could be the problem?

PS: I have gotten calls from every other company for the same profile but not amex. Can't be a problem with the profile. Seems something dicey which I'm not aware of.American Express
