I did an interview with a company recently, they called my references and called me to inform me that my salary for the job is 52k per annum, I negotiated 58k, I just moved to city “A” but still working in city “B”and really wanted to leave city B to the new city. I am currently earning 68k with some incentives in City B. The recruiter said he was gonna get back to me and they sent me a rejection letter a week later. I felt bad and just wondering if I did something wrong. 😔

Any job that offers you less money for an equal job, without any other incentive is just looking for cheaper labor or skills. (Look at the H-1B issues going on now). Nothing is worth a drop like that unless it’s a greater position in a smaller company (like a startup in the industry) or something that other equity for you is involved. You manage your investment in yourself, don’t discount yourself to for a shorter commute, apply your value wisely and equitably.

Thank you,

I don’t think you did anything wrong! It’s always good to negotiate and ask for what is fair. Sometimes rejections have nothing to do with negotiation processes too

That 50/50 company then owns 70% of holding company they own all the real estate as a partnership that the original partners are 35/35 and the investors own the remainder. All the real estate deals are then owned by this holding company.

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!
