Workout equipment is typically heavily discounted at this time of year so it’s a good time to look around. I got a great set of adjustable dumbbells at Dicks for $50. Mine only go up to 12.5 lbs but they’re perfect for my needs. I also have a 15lb kettlebell and some heavy duty resistance bands.
If you’re exclusively working out at home, I would say you should get some heavier weights, but you can get creative: during the pandemic I loaded up an old backpack with anything heavy I could find to do squats with😂
I love that!! :D
Has anyone ever tried adjustable weights? Also prefer to workout at home, but do not have a ton of space for a lot of equipment. Would like to start some lifting. I think it depends on your goals whether you’d want to go heavier or not. Doing something is always better than nothing.
I'd buy a few heavier sets, maybe 15 and 25 lbs to start. Any amount of weight lifting is better than nothing, but you can't really get stronger without lifting heavier.
Yeah 10 lb is good for lat raises and basically nothing else. I would get a set of heavy kettlebells that you can do goblet squats with as well as overhead press.
Get yourself some 20lbs weights and a 15 lb kettlebell. I think that should help you create a solid home gym. Now, I don't know how heavy you want to lift but from my experience, sticking with the 10lbs and then progressing to 15 and 20s on the days I need the extra pump has been more than sufficient for my at-home gym experience.
If you aren't noticiing anything or the weight has become really easy to lift then its probably time to go up in weight for sure. I would recommend getting some 25 pound weights to have as well because its likely that you have plateaud on the 10 pound weights.
I’d recommend trying to get your hands on some heavier weights if you can. You may have heard of “progressive overload”, the idea is to try to increase every week to gain muscle which in turn will burn more fat. While you have this one pair of 10s, I’d aim to add more reps and/or time under tension and then, as you add more weights to you collection, increase the weight too. You could also look into barre and mat Pilates workouts - these usually use light weights and incorporate smaller movements, though 10lbs may be too heavy for a lot of those believe it or not.
