Working for a small agency for a few months now on one client on a temporary employment agreement. Getting ready to sign a contract for work on a new client, but now they’re putting me on an independent contractor agreement at the same hourly rate. They didn’t tell me about the switch until they sent the contract.

Should I be concerned? Will I end up making less? What questions should I be asking?

Some Business Intelligence/Analyst roles are very data heavy. I wonder why these roles do not have the term “data” in them, and wonder if it’s to keep the salary lower than it should be. Watch out for Publicis—specifically Digitas. After a few weeks there, and a couple of quiet days (client is taking their time w/comments, etc) I was told that even though I was booked for that short week, I was only going to get paid for time actually worked—the 3 daily status meetings. Yes, that’s correct. 24 hours waiting patiently for the client comments and they’re paying me for 3 hours.

Got a non-paying client we need to avoid? We’ve all had clients who don’t pay their bills. Feel free to list them by name, how much they owe and how long they’re past due. It’s anonymous, after all!
