@D3, my husband is attorney and was studying for the bar at the same time I was studying for the CPA exam. He's told me plenty of times that based on the study material, the CPA exam is likely harder than the bar. I've heard the same thing from people who've taken both.
watched my parents (who did not go to college) get laid off a couple times and struggle daily to make ends meet with us growing up. A job after college was basically guaranteed with this major and I am able to comfortably pay my bills. One day I hope to support my parents and give back, but still not even sure I want to stay in accounting ...
@ BDO 1...Well known that CPA is harder than the bar. Seriously? You get to do one section at a time over an 18 month period for the CPA exam. Whereas its a 3 day gauntlet about 6 hours each day for the bar and you've got to be prepared for all types of law (con law, from law, from pro, civ pro, securities, UCC, evidence, contracts, Indian law, etc... the list goes on), oh and if you fail, you fail the entire thing (and it's offered only twice a year so have fun waiting 6 months to take it again if you fail). So think again on that high and mighty opinion of the CPA exam being more difficult.
My high school teacher taught too well
Same reason here, OP
D3- if BDO1 has been doing this for 20 years, their CPA exam was a single day beast of sprawling topics back in the day too.
Biggest mistake of my life. Cant undo it.
It was first on the alphabetized list...
I actually enjoyed learning and practicing accounting principles because I found it challenging. It's well known that the CPA exam is more difficult and challenging than the bar exam, which is why I continued on with obtaining my CPA certification and earning a masters degree in taxation. I would love the profession even more if there were fewer hours required during the busy season. Even after 20 years, I'm still finding parts of the job challenging.
I wanted to do something business related and my dad said, "You should major in accounting, that should be lucrative." So, here I am.
Originally, the job security and stability. Eventually I discovered I would love the environment I would be working in. Five years later, no regrets.
Outsidecpa, second on the bad first major. I thought about going back to school. Well, have been thinking for years. Have never pulled the trigger because A) afraid of being poor B) telling myself I should just suck it up and be thankful C) I think I'm too old to go back and start over.( I'm a manager)I was having a random conversation with a stranger at airport bar. She is studying history and wants to be a journalist. But her mom was telling her to study accounting as it's more practical. I was pleading with her to not do that
^That's why he is in BDO and you are in Deloitte 😂
I agree with Audit Senior Staff 1. My husband was studying for the bar the same time I was studying for the CPA exam, and he thought the CPA exam seemed harder. Also had friend who took both; he said the CPA exam was definitely harder. Plus, I know this can vary by state, but my CPE requirements are double my husband's CLE requirements.
I wanted to build a better working world

Bad first major, returned to school.
Sounded like a good and safe career at first and I also didn't know what I wanted to do, then I wanted to work for the FBI and found out that they take forensic accountants. Then I got into tax and it's been going on since then... I actually like and enjoy tax, just not the on call duty or the hours that come with it.
Profitability ignorance got me pursuing and then big4 koolaid got me continuing to pursue.
