I don't understand why customers look at said prices for certain levels of cleaning for their pets, then yell at me because it isn't free :(. I've been dealing with this for a while, so any advice?

The only advice is to learn to let it go in one ear and out the other. Do these people also yell at grocery store cashiers when they look at the prices of food items they want to buy? Or do they yell at the technician who is about to get underneath their car and change the oil? Services cost money. I can't think right now of ANY service that I've ever needed that was free. There's virtually nothing you can do to make strangers change their point of view or their attitudes, but you are 100% in control of how you react to their nonsense, and allow it to keep you awake at night. You do a job that is highly trained (probably 5 years in University), you do that job to sustain yourself and your family, you do that job for an INCOME just like your yelling customers do their jobs for an INCOME. They're perfectly welcome to go to other veterinarians if they don't like your service charges, but I think it will be a frosty Friday in hell before they find what they're looking for!

This happens regularly with my field also. Very few of our services are covered by insurance. ive tried giving quote sheets (like this is a range of the typical fees for services to have them sign BEFORE taking them back) and they’ll still scoff. I’d say get some really good front staff that won’t leave it open to negotiation. They wouldn’t be open to someone negotiating their rates for their job would they?

HR opinion: Do I have any leverage as a hospital nurse case manager in negotiating earned time? I have 15 years within the organization, left for 10 months to be remote during the pandemic while sorting out childcare as immunocompromised family helped. Now HR is restarting my ET as a new employee. I realize I left, but not on bad terms and I am an exemplar and respected employee. I thought I’d have the upper hand with the nursing shortage but I’m getting the “rules are rules” response. Help!?!

The position is remote & I’d like $20/hr. I’ve invested in myself as a coach & plan to complete board certification by early 2023
