I got a LinkedIn message from a recruiter about a remote 12 month w2 contract BA position at $60/hr. The role sounds legit, but I can’t find a public posting and they want me to email my resume. How cautious should I be with messages like this? Have recruiters been beneficial in your career, or is it better to apply directly to companies?

You're right to be cautious, there are a huge amount of scams operating these days. And you simply can't trust a recruiter reaching out unless you know they're legitimate. If they start making unusual requests for personal information, all the alarm bells should go off. A lot of these scams are focused on identity theft, or establishing contact with your bank account (the fake check scam in particular).

I decided not to entertain it. I hope I didn’t miss out. But I’m sure another opportunity will come. Thanks for your reassurance.

I would be cautious and ask for a phone call at the very least to discuss the opportunity. I am not overly cautious when it comes to my resume but any legit company would be registered with a state it does business in or has its principal location so a little internet sleuthing may be in order. You could be getting phished though.

Okay good to know. I asked ChatGPT and they couldn’t find a posting anywhere. But did say the email was from a legit company. But we shall see! I’ve never worked with a recruiter before. New territory for me. I hope I don’t get phished.

I’ve worked with recruiters like that off LinkedIn. Just make sure their email is from a legit company.

like

Yeah I decided not to respond to them anymore.

I would be cautious especially if there isn’t a public posting

Thanks. I decided not to entertain it and haven’t responded.

Same recruiter contact me by Linkedin. Very insistent located in India but contact me in NYC time. Asked me to update my cv, which is up to date, to send my full name, phone and email. I sent only my 2nd phone (ip), i verified with chatgpt and grok to find something, i search in company site, nothing. he insisted in an email, i sent a mailinator one. finally he sent the job offer. it was low way out my cv competences ! what a waste of time

Should I Go Back and Reneg? Recently I was offered a role as a Project Implementation Manager (In Retirement Services) .The salary range for Colorado residents was 65-89K. I’m located in NY so the recruiter said he would try to get me more. Ultimately he came back at 90K which is a bit inline with that I was seeing on Glassdoor but approx looks like I may leave 10-12K on the table. I accepted already but may get an offer from another HR company in account management around 90-100K. Need advice

Started a new job a year ago, high performer. My manager suggested a promotion to Product Manager since that‘s the work I’m doing, but that would be a 50% raise. Higher ups decided instead to make a “new role” (not PM), that has no analog in the company and is hard to price via Glassdoor, etc. I feel like this is to limit my promotion salary to something like 10% from where it currently is. Is there anything I can do? FWIW: I have a PhD from top 5 program and am working in that field. Thanks!
