I did because it was from a former employer / stagnant account. At the time, even with the penalty, I needed the cash more and did the math before going through with it. A small price to pay for the mediocre balance in that account. In my mind, it was never really my money since I hadn’t seen it prior to withdrawing, so the penalty never bothered me. For reference, I had racked up a few thousand in medical bills on a CC and didn’t want to be a slave to the interest rates. The withdrawal got me out of debt and the remainder went into my savings.
