I got hired for a specific client and a few weeks into my onboarding, the client announced that we were essentially being fired (through no fault of mine). My leadership reassured me that they’ll staff me elsewhere but I’m not sure I want to hitch my wagon to people who can’t seem to do anything right.

I want to start job searching but I’m concerned that other places won’t consider me because I’ve only been here two months. Any advice on how to best explain the short stint?

At what point does the value of a degree fall off? I'm in my early 30s, and have five years of experience, and work on a very theoretically interesting project. I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
