I had a call with someone today who emphasized that telling the story isn’t enough, you need to learn how to tell it to different groups of people. It’s a good reminder that it’s important to understand the people we work with and how they digest information. Any other good points along the same line?

Important!!!

It's a cliche to say "read the room," but there's a lot of wisdom in doing exactly that. When you communicate with people, you have to make sure what you're saying resonates with them. And if you don't consider your audience you'll just be talking past them. What I'd add to that is that it's important to encourage people to question you. Sometimes how you respond will be the most important part of the conversation.

Good point!

Along these same lines, structure matters a ton too. Don't bury the lede. Most people have minimal attention spans, and you don't want them to grow disengaged before you've been able to make your point. Lead with it.

Thanks for sharing!

100%! My boss is a prime example of this. He will explain things one way for everyone and then get irritated that some understand and some don't. Which in turn makes those that don't understand feel awful. When actually if he understood his employees and tailored the training to how they work then he would have a much different outcome!

I just got a really great offer, only downside is the eligibility for maternity leave is after 12 months of employment. We got a faint positive today but have had so many chemical pregnancies over the past year that I am not confident it will stick this time BUT I am on aspirin and progesterone for this try … so it could.. I want to see if I could negotiate being eligible earlier but I also don’t want them to think I’m pregnant when I’m not actually… How would you approach the conversation?

Interviewing for a product designer IC job at Meta, I was told by the recruiters that final panel would be 2 ICs and 1 manager. My schedule has 3 managers, no ICs and no other functions. I asked - told it was just due to scheduling constraints. I think managers just naturally have more experience and more stringent standards (generally). Is this worth asking to set up the more standard panel for me even if it takes longer to schedule? Or is this a non-issue? Just want an equitable experience

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

Hey all! I have an interview with
Deloitte in Regulatory Risk and more precisely in their Investment Management Services team. I would like to know if anyone

Is it the case here?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?
