Not to my face like that, but I've certainly felt looked down upon by coworkers and leadership before. It's like they have no idea what working in HR is actually like. We don't just write up employee handbooks and plan team building exercises...
I completely agree. People outside HR rarely see the tough parts — the redundancies, investigations, and emotional load. It is so much more than policies and handbooks, and being dismissed like that stings.
Not dismissed, but a CEO has said to me (in response to me voicing frustration), You must have known you’d experience this when you signed up for HR. Irritating because no, if the situation had been handled like I’d advised from the beginning, it wouldn’t be an issue. Obviously I now know being in HR means cleaning up alot of messes made by others.
Yep this has happened to me as well. People always think we have it so easy when that is definitely not the case. I try to just ignore it and brush it off.
Same here. People assume HR is easy until they sit in a redundancy or grievance meeting themselves. I try to brush it off too, but sometimes the lack of understanding really gets to me.
Conversation Starter
I think the “it’s only HR” can have a bit of stigma attached to it that it really shouldn’t as I’ve heard this phrase a few times and the amounts I know of people that can relate to hearing that. It really is a tongue biting moment!
I'd be fuming. No matter what department you work in, you cannot make people feel like their not as stressed as you, as important or busy as you.
