I work in house. I recommend you ask for a copy of the benefits and any bonus opportunities. Only after looking at the full comp package do you go back and ask for an increase in base salary. Employers spend a lot of money on the perks. “Thank you for sharing information on the base salary and full compensation package. In researching similar roles, I ask that you consider increasing the base salary to $ ___. “. This shows due diligence not just trying to squeeze them for more cash. Good luck and congratulations on being selected.
I’d try to negotiate as soon as possible so the employer can start their process of escalating/approvals.

Agreed. Time kills deals. Be prepared and think careful about your ask (if you decide to make one).
If this is a large established company, your best bet for more money is to ask for a sign on bonus. They may be able to increase base a bit but likely not by a meaningful amount. The hiring manager will likely have the most flexibility with a sign on bonus.
Yes, negotiate but do so with real data and good faith. Explain what your financial hang up is about the role (eg, foregoing bonus or raise), and justify/benchmark it against current comp or other offers if you can. Only get into comp discussions if you think you would otherwise take the role AND you think the gap you’re trying to close is reasonable. Frame everything as working toward “yes”
Nothing wrong with taking a little time to put your best counter forward. Ask them how you should submit it to them, and when they would like to receive it by.
