Idk, if a restaurant refuses to let someone have a day off when they're requesting it with enough time (assuming she did that and there wasn't another staffing emergency), I think that's on the employer. Working in the food industry is tough and one of the only true perks is that you have flexibility with your schedule for the most part

Totally agree! I dunno why the other place was so strict but thankfully she doesn’t work there anymore!
If they can do it and are given ample notice, they should try to accommodate. But having said that, it's not always possible to get every day you request off, and most of us know it.
It might be your birthday and you want the day off but it's business as usual and you still have to go to work so....
i mean i take my birthday off every year. it’s understandable to not wanna work on your birthday, right? i would say ask enough time in advance at least
