Yes that’s weird. I wouldn’t drive again

That's what I thought but wasn't sure. I've never seen something like that happen before so it is new to me. I'm going to cut back on that for sure.
Yeah that’s super weird. Makes it look like you’re the driver. They both can sit at the front/drive and you sit at the back or one of them can sit at the front with you.

What types of excursions are you going on where you are comfortable being "the third wheel" but uncomfortable that they sit together?
If you sat in the back seat with one of them that could be awkward but I would think this arrangement is relatively normal.

Most recent was a group of 11 people going hiking, caving and repelling over the weekend. Lots of driving going to and from different locations. And multiple cars with single people and couples.
I probably wouldn't describe it as an uncomfortable or awkward experience. Just odd to me that with 3 people 2 of them would sit in the back seat and kind or ignore the driver as it happened. But maybe that is the normal life of a third wheel and I'm just bad at being a third wheel.
If the tables were turned and I was the passenger. I would sit in the back seat and give shotgun to my significant other.
I’ve been put in that position but I just forced one of them to sit in the front with me. I think I said something like “I’m not a chauffeur, [friend name] come up and sit shotgun with me”
I said it in a joking tone and called the one I knew better in the couple to sit in front. Later I thought to myself that I could have been more gentle with my wording, but oh well
