I have done my Btech in Mechanical Engineering and went to Maxima watches for 2 yrs as a QA engineer plus process engineer for 1.5yrs in the same company. I have dropped for a yr to prepare GATE ME 2026 but couldn't get PSU now I am sitting at home hunting jobs. What am i supposed to do further getting almost no interview calls from 1000 companies i have applied for.

Technically, I'm not a college student anymore because I just graduated in December. I am having trouble finding jobs within my field (Communications with little experience in marketing). I wasn't available at that time so I mailed the HR for a different slot. They again scheduled it for a later date without checking the time with me.

But one peculiar thing is happening. I have appeared for 4 Cognizant interviews but in all I have been rejected. Whereas most of my friends had easily cleared Cognizant. I am switching tech, so I am a bit concerned like whether my knowledge is too shallow😐

It is more like support/dev and unit testing combined. Coding is hardly involved and my hold on DS is weak so not sure if I'll be able to crack technical interviews for C++ dev or anything similar.
So is this a right decision to move from application dev role to Data Science/analyst field? Does software engineer gets paid more?
