Ktown for sure. Chinese you’d need to drive to 626.
Quarters KBBQ is a fun spot to take and it’s right in a plaza with desert spots or a drinking bar upstairs in the same plaza. Also quite local to walk around to other spots.
Rising Star
You need to go to Thai town. Jitlada is the most popular, but there are many other great restaurants. But LA has the best Thai food in the country.
You should also do oaxacan. Guelaguetza is good for that.
For general Mexican, seek out a great taco truck.
If you’re rich, do an omakase.
Koreatown is a must too. I recommend Dan sung Sa and sung ha jang.
Destroyer in Culver City for lunch is also unlike any other restaurant I’ve been to (other than Jordan Kahn’s other restaurants).
Ktown - I second a nomination for Quarters KBBQ. Escala in the same plaza is a decent bar to get drinks after if you don’t want to go far.
Los Feliz - Vermont & Hillhurst are very walkable with tons of good food spots & shops. Homestate for bfast tacos, Fred62 for diner food & drunk late night. Mirate for Mexican, Nossa Caipirinha for Brazil, Little Doms for Italian, Figaro Bistro…etc
Your area - Night Market or Pine & Crane…
You gotta do a taco truck: Leo’s, Taco Zone, El Flamin … if you make it to Arts District Chingon is a fave
Also Smorgasburg is every Sunday dtla at the Row with tons of food vendors
Grand central market
What part of LA are you in?
Near Echo Park, but distance isn't really a concern for the most part!
There’s great taco trucks around downtown, Boyle heights, ktown. You’ll prob finding yourself not in west side for those cuisines 😅
Go to Bar Flores. Nice atmosphere and good drinks
Lax-C in Chinatown is a Thai wholesale market. On weekend mornings, there are good Thai food stalls outside. Recommend the Tom yum and papaya salad.
In k town, if you’re ok with a hole in the wall, zzamong has the best jajangmyeon and jjamppong. Han Bat for a refreshing sul lang tang with brisket.
You could spend a lot of time in the San gabriel valley seeking out Chinese/asian food. Mama Lu’s east of Garfield ave (avoid the one a few blocks away, west of Garfield). Tons of amazing noodle spots in Mian, golden deli, nah Trang, dai ho (best beef noodle soup in the city, closes down by 3pm or something like it). Chan kee for a great breakfast (porridge), and yi mei in the same plaza for a fan tuan (purple rice roll).
