Yes, in no particular order:
• Create a list of everyone that you've worked with at your company and assemble all their contact data.
• Connect with them on LinkedIn
• Research on LinkedIn how to network and start following Networking champions. They have templates, regular free coaching, and posts on this topic.
• Narrow your list down to the 4-8 people that consistently have your back. This is your core
• Reconnect with them if needed (e.g. they're in another company or retired)
• Let them know early about your search
• Build a short half-page brief: 1) your experience, 2) what you're looking for, 3) targeted companies industries, and 4) WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR THEM. (This last part is key -- what do you offer them as your superpower?)
• Revamp your LinkedIn to match the brief (this is marketing)
• Sell yourself like you'd sell a product. Networking should be a blend of rapport-(re)building but re-establishing your value. Your goal is to get them talking/thinking about you BEFORE a new position opens
• Add cold calls to your repertoire. Target 4-8 key companies that you want to work for
• Then GET OFF LinkedIn. You will not find a job there. Use your network to ask about better job posting boards and do an internet search for ones that have better hiring rates.
• If your company offers career consulting as part of your severance TAKE IT. Rework your materials, upgrade your resume, build a portfolio -- whatever it takes to enter the market feeling prepared.
• If your best work is sitting behind a proprietary or classified wall, find a way to build/replicate it at home with non-proprietary, unclassified data. For me, I replicated my best forecasts and projection using my personal electric bill instead of the company proprietary information from HR. Same basic graph -- won't get me in trouble.
• Prepare NOW for your layoff by taking 1-2 hours (possibly more) to upskill on you dream skill. It helps to have something new to offer when you go on the market.
• PERSIST. Apply for related jobs of interest (this was ultimately what landed me my current role. Prepped materials plus relevant skill set equaled recruiter call.)
Hope this helps! I was laid off for about 18 months in a tough job market and these are the best nuggets I can offer.

Networking can feel uncomfortable at first, but reconnecting with past colleagues, clients, and professional groups can open doors faster than applications. Personal introductions still carry a lot of weight.
