congrats on the new role and huge bump! you made the right choice. know your worth and do not be bound by the corporation you work for. your future leader capability is your own ability, so it is portable wherever you take it. the company you are leaving didn't try to match the salary? talk is talk- if they really appreciated your value, they would bite the bullet and try to retain you with a counteroffer.
I say if a step presents a safe quality opportunity take it with both hands. If you earned it at the prior job and they are to stingy to make it happen you go boy!
What can eventually happen vs. what is happening right now are two very different things. I would take the guarantee over maybe any day. Every company is different, but my experience is that it’s best not to wait for someday.
Get that new job. “Maybe some day” doesn’t pay the bills. That’s a substantial raise and if I were you I’d take it.
I can't see any reason to second guess your decision. That's a substantial raise, and it's real, it's not some speculation about what may happen in the future. A lot of people listen to talk about potential promotions and raises and they may wait for something that never happens.
You should base your decision on the information that you have now. What could occur in the future should not have an equal value to the salary of your new job. I've seen many promises of future compensation not become realized.
"Future" + "eventually" + $10 buys me a cup of coffee (and I hate coffee).
Unless there's a concrete plan for advancement within two years, they're just dangling a carrot.

Current company sees future value, new company sees the value today, you did not make the wrong move.
This has happened to me twice. Always amazing how they find money after you threaten to leave. That being said, you can always go back, I did.
But I would never be where I am salary wise without leaving first.
Congratulations. Don't over think this. Be paid your worth.
Sounds like you were in a tough spot with two good options. Just because you feel some sadness doesn’t mean it was the wrong move. It means you cared about the people and the work you did. That’s a good sign, not a red flag.
You made the right move. The company you’re leaving never had any intention of making you a “future leader”. If they did, they’d have already done it.
I would’ve done the same.. You did good.
Define “future”. As in tomorrow or in ten years?
A promise of future income is way less meaningful than the guarantee of higher income. Follow your intuition!
Go go go, this is BS with future leader bla bla…standard textbook for people who perform. You need to stick to a company from upper middle management upwards, that’s when it’s difficult to progress further by switching jobs. But at more junior levels loyalty will just slow down your track (very few exceptions)
You made the right decision!
What does "eventually" mean to them? Next 6 months, or 3-5 years down the road, if at all. Talk is cheap unless they take action.
did your current employer make you a counter offer? If not that tells you all you need to know.
I want to work.
“Eventually” doesn’t pay the bills today. “Eventually” these jobs might not exist. Make as much money as you can, as fast as you can, while you can.
