I just was just laid off as part of a company wide RIF. I haven’t yet signed my severance agreement and want to know if anyone has successfully negotiated their severance payout? Any pointers?

So sorry you are being impacted by this.

A few things impact successful negotiation:
- Original employment contract
- What country are you located in
- The actual severance inclusions or exclusions as dictated by regional laws
- Length of time in organization & most recent role
- Job title & amount of impact to organizational goals
- Any awards received/acknowledgement of your past contributions
- Age & gender are sometimes factored into consideration (only learned this when an older family member was laid off)
- Industry reports on current rehiring opportunities that would be available to you now.
- CoL data

Please contact an employment lawyer licensed to practice in your region, and when you schedule your FREE initial consult, be prepared with this information.

They will be the best qualified to provide you with the best negotiation strategy.

Wishing you the best of luck

I wish you the best luck and better employment opportunities in the future.

I am not sure how useful an employment lawyer will be in a situation with a well-defined severance plan.

They will definitely review your situation and details of your package and will charge you for that review. However, if everyone else in your lay off round are subject to the same well-defined rules, your chances of negotiating a better deal are not very high in my opinion.

Still, perhaps this review is going to make you feel better about the situation in the sense that it gives an honest assessment of your chances to get a better deal from a professional.

Hi everyone, applied for an investment consulting internship few weeks back.
It's a client facing job, but it might come at a later stage of a job, maybe after finishing my internship and getting a job offer.
I'm interested to know what is the must develop skills, must take courses or must read books to get insight, develop the required knowledge and skills for the position. I majored in business management finance and currently preparing for CFA level 1. Thanks in advance ☺️

Hi everyone. I was a solution engineer at Oracle. I graduated from college in May and this was my first job out of college so the lay offs were pretty rough. I majored in Supply chain management and I have 2 internships under my belt. Do you guys have any advice or tips on what to do moving forward? I would like to stay in tech and I’m giving it a few weeks before I start pivoting to more traditional supply chain roles. Thanks.

Hey team! So I was laid off from my SDR position about a week ago. A couple months back, I had an offer for a BDR position that I ended up turning down but I really liked and connected with the manager. Is it worth it to reach out? I applied to other positions in the same company. What about reaching out to previous co workers at a different company? Not sure how to navigate this… please help. Also I’m sorry if this is the wrong bowl to post in.

6 months pregnant and just laid off. And 40% of my severance was just taken in taxes .. I just spoke with paid family leave and I no longer qualify even though I had been paying into the program (thanks NY).. I already applied for unemployment but doctors are telling me I’ve got 10-14 weeks left in this pregnancy.. so stressed having twins and being unemployed, no maternity leave, no paychecks coming in, and I’ve been applying but not a single interview.. just ugh. 😭

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Add a terrible health situation in my family and it seems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Ugh. 😞
