I just took a week off, but my brain was still drafting ad copy the whole time. How do you all truly disconnect and keep the industry stress from creeping into your downtime? Any specific hacks?

Read some books, pay attention to what’s happening in the world , put energy into alleviating the suffering of people and communities near and far, write about your life and experiences… there are many more important things to consume your mind with than selling shit to people that they don’t need !

What works for me: spa/sauna (the most effective for me), massage (self-massage works too), walks/exercise, talking with friends/family, interacting with pets/animals, Nighty Night Extra tea/valerian root, guided meditation, ice bath for face only (this works instantly, all thoughts disappear)

Not checking email, detaching from work mentally (we’re only humans floating on a rock)

It has to start by not let it creep into your downtime on weeknights and weekends. If you aren’t able to disconnect on your week off, my guess is you are always on during regular weeks too. You just have to remind yourself the work will be there the next day and shut off at a certain point. If everyone at your company is working evenings and weekends, then well, maybe it’s time to look for a new job!

My company issues top of the line 16” MBP’s for engineers and lower end 13” MBP’s for all others. I work in analytics/ data science and struggle with the fact that my computer can only run 1 external display! No one else on my team cares. How can I navigate requesting a more expensive computer without annoying my leadership? I already own an upgraded MBP as my personal - can I offer to swap my work and personal machines?

My work product is becoming worse and partners are noticing/commenting. I just hate the practice area so much that every time I am asked to do something I just get it done as quickly as possible and can’t be bothered to put in effort. I think I need to quit so I’m not fired for bad performance with a horrible reputation. Am I nuts and should I just wait til they let me go?

I've seen people say that if you're underpaid, you can't just outline your contributions because your manager needs a compelling reason for finance to bump your salary and they need to prove you're underpaid. So how do I present my case that I'm being underpaid other than "my friends make this amount in their role" or "Glassdoor says this" when finance can find rebuttals for these arguments?
