Yeesh, video sounds way too cringe for me. I'll wait to read a writeup detailing everything that's been announced. I use Canva all the time and find it to be a super valuable tool. It's not making me more creative by any means, but then again, the things I typically use it for (decks, presentations, etc.) don't really need to be that creative so long as they're well-structured.
I had it on my calendar to watch, but ended up getting sidetracked. The last one I watched was also a bit cringy, but kind of love that it is different! I really like Canva, and think it is a great tool to use with other ones. Can be a crutch, can also be a great jumping off point to get started!
I watched a video of an event they did in the fall that was remarkably cringe, it was on the level of the famous Window 95 launch vid that still circulates. Now I have to watch to see if they outdid themselves. As for the creative crutch concept, I'm of two minds about that. I figure anything that's good for brainstorming is good to have. But farming out creative work to the robots doesn't appeal to me. I want a robot to clean the kitchen and mow the lawn, not participate in the creative parts of life.
I love using Canva as a simple content creating tool and the collaboration part. It's like the user friendly version of "Adobe Illustrator". We've been experimenting with making bulk content for clients using ChatGPT and it's come a LONG way and something we can actually use. If Canva integrates similar abilities it will make creating new content easier than ever (given all of our historical designs are already in there to reference). As a strategist I would not use AI/canva to generate a brand new perfectly polished creative though, I would use it to drive inspiration, express ideas or supplement briefs for a creative team to fully design, or bulk create a bunch of different concepts from an already polished design. We need a lot of creative for ads these days and its just too much to design every single small test on our own.
