Journalism is about accountability. Blogging can be sharp and well-researched, but journalism demands verification, sourcing, and responsibility to the public. If you are fact-checking, interviewing, and holding power to account, that is journalism—not just opinion dressed up as writing.
I guess when you say it like that, journalism is just blogging professionally. Business casual vs. casual. I am working on some ideas right now to publish on my own, and kind of just planning to see what happens and what I might want to do differently.
Attention to detail and human connection. Many of my old peers focus so much on achieving their goals and seeking their big breaks that they forgot what makes good journalism: being able to connect with the public and help them feel seen.
