I actually live in the high rise across the street! It gets pretty noisy on the weekends at night but it’s not too bad for me. I got some blackout curtains and a white noise machine and I sleep just fine now but if you’re sensitive to noise then it may be an issue for you. I have a friend who lives in Thayer & Spring and she can’t study there at night on the weekends because of the noise. There’s some construction during the day (like right now) but that doesn’t bother me either because it sounds like white noise. The main issue is the bars in the area at night on the weekends but it ultimately depends on how much you can tolerate. Invest in the curtains and noise machine and it should help!
I’ll also add that I love living here. Lots of things are within walking distance (Whole Foods, movie theaters, Giant, Safeway, different cafes and restaurants, the metro, The Fillmore, etc) and as a woman living alone, I don’t feel unsafe. It’s close enough to DC that I’m able to drive there quickly or go for long walks or runs there during the day. I would recommend!
I actually lived in that building and absolutely loved it. Noise doesn’t bother me but I would suggest living on the side that is not facing Georgia Ave if you have issues with noise.
Silver Spring is def an up and coming area. It has come a LONG way in the past 20 years. Very nice very fun area esp for young people and social events. It’s right on top of commuting access. A few minutes further north are good family areas with amenities like Costco and a mall. Yes silver spring has noise related to social activity, but not like….noisy noisy. I don’t know what you’re comparing it to of course. A lot of good breweries and pubs in silver spring.access to parks if you have a car and can drive a few miles
Great area, great food options and family friendly
I just moved from Thayer and Spring a few months ago. I would request a unit that’s not on the alley side that backs the businesses on Georgia Ave. A lot of tenants were complaining of the noise level. I faced Thayer, where the Safeway is and it wasn’t as bad. The weekends can get a lil noisy as people dispersed to their cars but outside of that it was manageable.
I think the positives are covered so I'll say the negatives here, this area does border DC so the rough elements do show up. Like around Christmas last year there was a shooting at a bar on Georgia Ave near downtown. Keep in mind affordability is also another code for lower income. My friend just moved out because there are strangers lurking in the buildings some times. But I live in the suburbs of silver Spring and never had any issues. It's a really cosmopolitan area with lots of diversity.
Yes lived at Ripley left because it started getting too ratchet
