Put some thought and research into whether getting your masters is necessary. If you can afford it, it might be nice to have, but taking on debt to obtain it may not be a great investment.
Completely agree. It should be something that propels your career more than if you didn’t have it. If it’s more so because you miss learning or don’t know what you want to do, I would not. Loans are too expensive and are more limited these days.
Seasonal tax work usually available.
Consider being a TA or work for the university in some capacity - may help with a scholarship or subsidized tuition in some way
That sounds like a plan and a good next step. What is your reservation about going to grad school and working part-time? That's what I did.
What job did you end up working? Did the grad school pay off?
Most CPA firms will let you work part time. If you are getting the masters in something else in order to pivot away from accounting then you might not want to lead with that. Lol
Oh my. Leaving a job when so many folks can’t even find one. I personally think you should follow your dreams. I’m sorry you had such a hard time at your old job that you had to quit. I’ve been looking for work for a long time. I have a college degree and a craft I will be going back to school to become something. I think really having a focus if you’re gonna take your masters degree that you go into a particular job and make sure that job has positions open now and in the future, the job market is murder. Best of luck to you.
What's the masters in?
Education is never wasted. It depends on what your objective is in obtaining a master’s. I have an MBA but studied on a part-time basis which included nights and weekends. My company paid for it which is the only reason I decided to apply. Do you know what you want to study and are you interested in attending an elite program? Did you take the GMAT’s or GRE already? You already have good experience if you worked for an elite CPA firm.
