I love innovation, but sometimes it feels like Google prioritizes it over practicality. I've seen projects that were amazing in theory but completely impractical for real-world use. We'd spend years developing something that never made it out of beta because it was too complex or didn't solve anything. Meanwhile, existing products were neglected because they weren't 'new' enough. It's like we're chasing the next big thing instead of perfecting what we already have. Anyone else feel this way?

This is exactly what was said about Google Maps many moons ago. And look where we are now.

I resonate with this so much! Possibly the most frustrating thing about the job for me too. The company thrives on pushing boundaries, and in the process just sidelines existing products that need improvement. This "move fast and iterate" culture, which I wish was more the opposite, works for some projects but leaves others in perpetual beta. And its so hard to balance groundbreaking ideas with real-world usability. I feel you OP.

You get promoted / higher ratings based on doing something new vs improving existing.

Is that still true tho? I've been hearing so much from leadership about the desire to change that mentality.

Is it a norm to send a thank you note through your recruiter? I had an iffy interview, and wondering if I bother sending a thank you note. It was very clear that they were trying to do a stress interview so I feel weird saying the usual nice things.

About to head to the HC for a role in ProdOps and Strategy in Mountain View. 4 YoE at MBB, no competing offers. Recruiter gave me a form that asks expected comp.
Levels.fyi has only PM salaries. I haven’t been told the level but expect it to be L4.

What total comp would you expect for this role? Any advice would be super helpful, as I’m a bit lost.

Hello Guys,

I am in a super good position at Jellyfish as a Director with a good room in terms of growth. Great responsibilities, work life balance and I strongly love my job. However, there is an opportunity to join Google Dublin as an Agency Development Manager (level 4) with strong salary, new challenges, different role and responsibilities etc. I HAVE A STRONG DOUBT about a trade off: is better to have a strong margin of growth and a good position or join Google with the above conditions?

I have 7 YOE and applied for a position that is L4. I feel as if I’m overqualified for the position, but the Recruiter told me that when they say L4, they are actually looking for someone with 6+ years of experience. Is this true? I feel like I should be looking at L5 with my experience
