Yeah i do my learning and studying AT work. Then I can focus on my hobbies and family outside.
The philosophy is the same as in personal finance where they advise you to set aside your long term investments and savings FIRST when you get your income, and then your expenses last. Pay yourself first.
Same thing. Work for yourself first.
Let's break it down:
1. Stop "caring" about the project. If it gets delayed it gets delayed.
2. Sandbag your time estimates to protect L&D time. Most ambitious teams don't do this well and their people don't grow.
3. L&D is your top priority because being good at what you do matters. So do this BEFORE starting on your work today so you at least get 1 hour in. It's easy to get dragged onto the prioritised list that ever extends. It's easy to get distracted by others asking for help on their stuff and then finding you don't have time to do your L&D.
4. Use AI copilots as much as humanly possible to make progress on your work projects which should buy you more time and energy to do L&D.
5. Use AI copilots to outline crash courses that let you optimise your learning progress (i also use text to speech tools to speed up my rate of reading and retaining material, and speech to text tools to help speed up interaction with agents).
This is much more effective because 1 hour every day is 8-10 hours a week. If you do this 80% of the time it's the same as taking 1 day a fortnight for L&D (which a lot of companies support) but it's FAR more effective because you're frequency of access to your new knowledge or skills is higher. Spaced repetition basically.
Does getting a fully remote job count? It's amazing how much more time and energy I have now that I don't have to get ready and commute every day.
The power nap lunch break is a game changer. I finally have energy again for my family at the end of the day.
