I need help understanding what is going on since it happened twice to me. I interviewed at 2 different industry jobs. Apparently I was the first one to go in for interview for both. The first company loved me and moved me quickly to last round. But then they stalled and said they need a month or so to make the decision since they have some other candidates interviews lined up and they need to do the due diligence. The 2nd company I interviewed with loved me too. See more in comment section

Be patient, what is for you is for you.

You are not wrong, the more candidates you interview the more you have to refer to notes unless someone was a perfect fit

Even then colleagues and other leaders may chime and and want a different candidate.

Keep moving forward… they snooze they loose.

Yeah I just feel the process is wrong. Rather than interview one candidate every few week why not gather all the applications and identify 4-5 candidates to interview together. So comparison is happening in a fair manner.

I am going through this right now. I have a very strong candidate that I want to move forward with, but we need to do our due diligence in interviewing others. Due to scheduling conflicts this will make the process go a couple of weeks. If you are a strong contender I wouldn't worry.

It’s a great fit but when I followed up with HR after 1.5 week of my interview, she said I was the first one the team interviewed and they haven’t had a chance to meet other candidates so she’ll let me know in the upcoming weeks. Is this how it works in industry? My question is wouldn’t they identify 5 candidates and interview all at once so they can make a decision? If they interviewed me first and take 2-3 weeks to interview other candidates wouldn’t they forget about me and not remember how good I was and be more impressed with the latest candidate they interviewed ?

like

Yea, unfortunately this is normal. But honestly, they are doing nothing wrong. They do need to screen an interview a few candidates in order to ensure they are making the right decision. Though I admit their process can be a bit better. For example, not every candidate you interview needs to make it on to the final round. So not sure what their exact process is. I would just wait and let them come to you now. In the meantime keep applying and interviewing at other places.

With today’s competitive job market, it may not add a lot of pressure on them, unfortunately. Also, a lot of big companies have to follow these strict processes and “due diligence” even if they really like a candidate.

If you’ve already followed up, I would just leave them be. Personally, as a high quality candidate in the market, I don’t have time to wait around, even for a company I like. I wouldn’t let another offer pass me by just because this company wants to take their time. At the end of day, even after their due diligence, they may not even pick you. If it were me, I would take the offer from Firm A. And for Firm B, you snooze you lose buddy lol!

like

Sometimes that’s not realistic. The business is still running and people have time off and updates are happening all the time. Internal candidates want an opportunity…. just keep moving forward . Don’t let this stop your momentum

like

^ agree with this, if they extend you an offer that's great! But don't put your search on pause for them

needing a month to make a decision seems long! Hope you find the right fit :)

Outside of salary, what other things have people negotiated as new hire, I’ve seen more PTO, working from home, sign on bonus, even stock options? Hi,
I had call with the HR for he position based out of Mumbai everything in interview and they are ready to share the offer. however, I quoted for 10 lakhs and they said for fixed pay of 8.75.
Although, i checked on Google as well average pay they are giving is 9.7 lakh
So should I accept the offer as per their negotiation or shall positively tell them why 10 lakh is justified?

Has anyone ever asked to renegotiate their salary after starting a job? I’m 2 months into my new job and I have far more responsibilities than what I was told. It’s a lot different than what was relayed in the posting and during the interviews. Additionally, they hired my counter part in as a senior manager which is at least $30k more than what I make. My peer has more experience so I expect that but I feel that I should be paid more, however I don’t want to leave a bad impression… any advice?

Hey All,
I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

Hi! I have a quick question and could use some advice:

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

I have just interviewed for a position closer to home and a base salary of 65k, but haven’t heard back from them in about 2 days (He said he would make a decision by yesterday and I’ve reached out).
I have to decide on the first offer by Thursday but I haven’t heard back from the second yet. Thoughts on next move?
