Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

“According to market research” has been hugely helpful for me!

Oh sounds smarter. Backing up with facts. Straight to the point and no guessing that you’ve done research.
One tactic I’ve seen work well is asking, “How did you arrive at this number?” Not confrontational, just curious. This helps me get the opportunity to talk about and see if they have space for more. Then, we can learn more about their plans and their expectation for my role at the company.

That’s good to bring up.
Go into a negotiation ready to make a good case for yourself. Be ready to talk about your workplace wins over the previous year. But don't just talk about them, frame it all in a narrative of improvement. Point out how you've grown in your job and stepped up and taken on more things. Suggest, or just state outright, that you're not the same employee you were when your current salary was determined.

Interesting approach. I’ve got to work on the story piece. Thanks
