I agree. It comes across as inauthentic to me when leaders repeat the same buzzwords. “Pivot” is another one that features heavily. I tend to tune out when these words are repeated throughout a presentation.

I wasn’t on the same call as you but I get super annoyed whenever you can immediately identify the most recent book your leaders have read by their catch phrases. I love to read those books too but I would hope you can take away a message or concept that speaks to you and make it your own and not spew it out to everyone you talk to.

What about “double click”?

Better than leaning over, which is what I feel I’m being asked to do for some of my worst clients the firm won’t let me fire.

funny

Yep. Along with “folks”, and “at scale”. Not to mention “circle back”. We know who uses that one a lot.

Lol

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

Frustrating… I don’t like my associate
He’s been on the project for 6 months and doesn’t do anything and isn’t willing to learn anything but some how is still employed . I’m not the type to get someone fired and you know … have prbs paying bills . So I haven’t professionally complained about him but for F*** sake I’m losing my patience … feeling guilty to take his bread and complain … looking for new project … idk what to do

What can a junior associate do about a mid-level that constantly asks questions about things they were cc’d on, sends dozens of piecemeal emails and is generally just super high strung and needs everything right away?? DE&I is now a core leadership competency. If you are managing diverse talent, it’s important to understand what the term “privilege” means within a DE&I context so you can lead your team to higher levels of inclusivity+develop optimal strategies for solutioning around team issues/challenges. Everyone has some aspect of privilege depending upon the context. Privilege means the absence of obstacles/barriers, not necessarily the presence of perks. Though some would say *that* itself is a perk.

Can anyone help me wrap my head around this post Series C start-up equity offer? It’s an IP director position, the the base is $170 with 10% bonus (both lower than I was expecting). There’s also an equity component: 0.15% of current fully diluted equity. This equates to about 30000 shares at a strike price of $2. They also indicate the preferred stock price is $6 and preferred stock equity is $188k (whatever that means). They are in the middle of a new financing and valuation round.

Big law specialist with an offer to be the CFO and GC of a 250M AUM hedge fund. All in comp would probably be ~$300k, so about $100k less than where I would be in big law (including bonus). Potential to get involved in the business side, but most likely more of a back office role (I would also be the only legal hire - main goal would be cutting outside legal cost and streamlining processes).
