What is a good salary for a director in NY?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Hello
I had a coworker that was moved from hourly to salary and was told it was the only way to compensate her for the nearly lateral move. She has regretted it every single time the rest of us are able to get OT, She ended up losing at least $14k a year.
You should always run your figures and determine what you need & what you need extra.
I also made a similar transition and the lack of overtime really ate up a lot of my income. I didn't realize how much I was relying on that extra money from OT. I think a salaried role should accommodate for the time you'll inevitably be working outside of your 40 hours, otherwise each additional hour is basically an hourly pay cut.
I haven't, but those are all things to consider. I remember when I went from hourly to salaried, I ended up making less because I could no longer get paid for OT. You should definitely ask for a raise.
I always try to warn people being wary for moving from hourly to salary. They’re moving you to salary because they know they can save money on you there. They get to make it look like you’re making more money but in reality with overtime you’re making less than you would have your if you remained hourly.
