Coach
I’d rather a second year student than alumni tbh
This isn’t a job interview and it’s not the final “hurdle” to being admitted. The interview is like 20% of your overall candidacy.
If it makes you feel any better, the HBS director who interviewed me ended the conversation by saying “wow, you started XYZ club at work? I don’t think we have one here at HBS, maybe you could start one!”
Rejected. lol
For HBS I just put my default setting to being rejected, you never know what these schools are thinking
Gritty from discord? lol
Partially agree, MBA2s are closer to the process and can empathize more, and they can also get a sense if they'd like to be classmates with you and recruit with you.
That being said, I think most schools do prefer using alumni to interview candidates, but sometimes there aren't enough, hence the use of MBA2s, so it's probably a capacity issue more than anything.
How many schools actually use second years? 4/5 of mine were all AdCom (HBS, MIT, CBS, NYU, with Wharton being the exception because of the TBD)
Mentor
You overestimate the importance of these interviews. If it’s a 2nd year, the weight applied isn’t high at all.
