I received my first offer after being unemployed for 6 months, but it's $20k less than my previous job. I really need the income, but hate feeling like I'm being lowballed. I'm running out of savings and getting desperate, though. Is it stupid to try negotiating, or should I just keep looking for better opportunities?

Not stupid to try negotiating. Any extra dollar you can squeeze out of them is a win. If it doesn't go anywhere, so be it. You just take the job and keep applying.

Stupid is not the best word to describe this situation. This offer being 20k less than your compensation at the previous company you were employed. Assuming your new offer is for a position in the company thats similar in nature to your previous role. I would have immediately, upon the reciept of the offer letter, made contact with whoever made that that offer. I would ask this person if there is any room for negotiation with this compensation. They will likely entertain a negotiation. At this point I would have asked for 30k more added to the offer ɛto the

Swallow your pride and give yourself some grace here. The job pays the bills. This is a business transaction not about your feelings. Also give them a chance. You may find that you really like the new job and people you work with. And you may have less work. Otherwise, just give them $20K less effort while checking the boxes. And get a side hustle to close the gap.

Hi Fishes,

I was offered RSUs for the first time as part of my compensation. I think I understand the concept as such but there are a few intricacies I was looking to clarify. Could anyone let me know if my grant date is 9th nov, 2022 and vesting period is 1 year, will I get RSUs allotted at the price of stock on grant date or vest date (in this case 9th nov, 2023)? Happy to connect in DMs as well

Still sitting and waiting (1.5 weeks) to have the conversation about compensation expectations and finalizing the offer. Is the Google hiring process typically this slow? I feel like this is not a good reflection of their recruiting process. Let me know if you've had recent/similar experiences
