I recently finished a final interview and got the classic “we’ll circle back soon with details.” It’s been a week—no update, no rejection, just silence. Is it normal for salary talks to stall this long, or is that their polite way of moving on?

A week is a reasonable amount of time to send a follow-up. Try not to read too much into it. They could be waiting to hear from another candidate, could have ghosted you, or could just be a hectic week. Wait and see, but keep job hunting just in case.

like

It can be if there are a lot of people involved in the process, or the company is just slow moving. You should still send a followup no matter what. If they do or did decide to go in another direction, you need to know so you can plan your next steps.

This isn't too long - you also have to think, if you look at any job posting right now which shows application metrics; there are SO many people looking for jobs.

You're likely at the top of the list for them to get back to, however, recruiters often handle multiple open roles, needs to work with hiring manager to settle on a candidate to make an offer to, prepare paper work and then re-do paper work and negotiate with managers if you negotiate details of the offer.

As others have suggested, a week is the perfect timeline to send a follow up. It shows you're interested and have follow-up skills, but the job market is rough right now - have a bit of patience.

The other thing is, if it's been a week and you haven't received an offer, I'd keep going with your job search. Worst case scenario, you get another offer; this company comes back - and now you have another often to use as negotiating leverage.

Good Luck!

Hi fishes,

My joining date mentioned in IBM Offer letter which I received just a while ago is second week of November, 2021. However, I have 90 days notice period. It also says to accept within 3 days and a clause is written that joining date can be revised only till 5 days. Will ibm revise my joining date ? I am very anxious it's too late so I cant even call recruiter.

Please suggest.

Got an offer for Sr. Financial Analyst for 85k & 10% annual bonus. What's a good counteroffer? I told the recruiter 95k-110k when I first interviewed. This position is 100% remote, headquartered in VA. I live in NYC. Have roughly 2 YOE.

Thanks.

How realistic is it to land an AD position as a fresh grad (with a doctorates) and a handful of pharma & FDA interships? Context: I'll have over a year of (consistent) work experience at a large pharma company and I have prior leadership/mgt experience (< 10 yrs) in a gov't role prior to changing careers and pursuing a doctorates.

Also, whats the pay difference between Sr Manager and AD at a large pharma company? TIA!

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?
