I saw someone post in another bowl that they feel like younger, more attractive looking teachers are viewed in a more positive light and that because of this they are seen as better educators. I personally haven't noticed this at all (in fact this sounds a little crazy) but I am curious to know if anyone has had an experience with this?

The more attractive teachers are seen as better educators by whom? If it's by students, I suppose that kind of makes sense, they might pay more attention to someone they find attractive. Then again, they might be more distracted? But seriously, if they're being considered better teachers by administrators, that's is, as you put it, a little crazy.

I agree. Luckily, I haven't personally seen students or administrators treat people differently based on looks. Thank heavens for that.

There are always people who think that the “traditionally attractive” people are better in general- they seem more “together” and like they know what they are doing. 🤷‍♀️

They do a great job of putting up that front but when you look deeper, everyone has issues.

I saw something similar last year, when s young, smart teacher, well liked by students , was not renewed after her first year and the only reason we could all surmise is that the principal didn’t like her because she is severely obese. It can’t be proven but I think looks can be a reason.

Interesting... I hope that wasn't the case!

I’ve never seen anything like that personally. I don’t really feel like we have a they are better or that kind of mentality around us. We are all in it together and feel that way from all sides, even administrators. I don’t want to diminish anyone's experience, but it is nothing I’ve dealt with myself.

Agreed. The attitude of being on the same team takes us so much farther in life. Imagine where we would be as a society if everyone had that attitude.

I love my job in special education, the job may bring quite a bit of stress and exhaustion but nothing compares to the stress of the related service team. OT, PT, speech, BCBA, social worker, etc etc is really what’s killing me this year. It is 23 days into the school year and the team members all make different plans and as a result, nothing is being accomplished. And if paraprofessionals follow ie what OT says but not PT, it cause so much unnecessary conflict!
