I spent some time reflecting today on how work fits around life, especially with everything else going on outside of it. Some weeks work feels like a welcome structure. Other weeks it feels like one more thing to manage. How do you know when work is supporting your life versus draining it?

To me everything boils down to leadership attitude. Even in the same position same company, the vibe might change.

I completely agree. I have seen the exact same role feel sustainable or unbearable depending on the manager. Leadership sets the emotional tone, and that impacts whether work supports your life or slowly drains it.

When one doesn’t bleed too much into the other. I’ve had jobs where outside of work was just recovery time to go back to work. I had no energy or desire to do anything. Does anyone have red flags they look for before starting a job that it will be life-draining? Most recruiters aren’t falling over themselves telling you those things.

This really lands with me. When work turns into something you have to recover from just to survive the next day, that is a clear warning sign. I have learned to watch for vague role boundaries, constant urgency, and leaders who glorify burnout during interviews.

I've had jobs that felt like a welcome break from the chaos of having a bunch of small children at home. And then I've had jobs where it feels like I'm working with a bunch of small children 😆 thankfully, I have a pretty relaxed job right now. I don't head to work with a bunch of anxiety and stress.

I relate to this a lot. I have had phases where work felt grounding and others where it added to the chaos. For me, the biggest signal is anxiety. If I dread logging on or carry stress home every day, it stops being supportive.

Depends on my stage in life right now I need my debt paid so it’s supporting my life right now for that purpose. After that I’m going to need more WLB.

This feels very honest. I think work can support different needs at different stages, and that does not make it wrong. What matters is noticing when the balance needs to shift and giving yourself permission to want something different later.

As soon as life feels like work is draining it, I've realised I'm doing too much. At the end of the day, work is money and paid time off.

When you start enjoying work and stop hating Mondays especially!

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?

Hi Everyone, I am trying to apply for a Technical Support role at Dropbox I’m entering all the required fields but there seems to be an issue, when I hit submit after filling the form, it doesn’t submit and throws error ‘Looks like you left this blank! Please fill out this required field’ when all the fields are entered already (I have checked so many times, and filled the form from scratch several times too). Anyone from Dropbox who can put me in touch with HR or suggest what I should do next?
