I teach in a middle school self contained class. Math is accelerated for the students, so I follow that curriculum for the most part. Science is covering the same topics, but I have freedom to create my own projects and labs.
I’m the GC of my district. Yes. We use the same textbook. Our gifted move faster and go deeper with concepts. So by the end of the year they have done more with each topic and have been exposed to more
We follow the progression of the standards. If you use NWEA, the progression is pretty clear. If not, just knowing what each skill will lead to helps. We expose students to the next level.
Another great approach is projects. Websites like mathalicious give opportunities for students to practice skills in real world scenarios - something we don’t often have time to do with all students.
Finally, constant discourse and reflection help to solidify concepts, explaining the how and why things work
