Lessons that I learned in past weeks: 1) be careful with out of money options as they don’t have intrinsic value 2) don’t make rash decision based on blindly following others 3) cut loss and ego

Any suggestions or ideas on working with teachers who are less than enthusiastic about utilizing technology as a means to bring “more” to their lessons?

I generally have a few lessons in which I can use Pixar shorts to teach students how to identify and discuss literary signposts, how to identify and explain the development of theme, character traits, and other narrative elements. What are some of your favorite shorts? I am trying to incorporate activities where my students get to choose their own clips for independent practice with these skills and need a variety to draw from.

I got an email last night from a 7th-grade parent because her son said I mentioned the words "male privilege" in class, and she is very concerned about how that is related to ELA (she said "reading"), and she is concerned about this being taught in public schools. To be clear, I didn't do a lesson on this subject but we did discuss rights versus privileges. I've had multiple parents contact the school/get upset with me because of things like his. It's exhausting... Thoughts?

What do you do when you need a sub? What kinds of plans work best for subs in the Spanish classroom? I have needed subs lately and have found it hard to plan lessons that aren’t just busy work.

Taking some golf lessons, got a women’s starter set I got to make sure I liked golf first. Instructor mentioned that the driver is like swinging a wet noodle for me lol and I should look into a men’s or one with stiffer flex. I have no idea what to look for. Are the people at Dicks Sporting Goods knowledgeable or worth driving the 40 min to PGA store?

Do you find yourself thinking about ways to improve your lessons as you experience life? I’m on vacation for the first time in 10 years and I keep asking myself “wow, what kind of technology is that?” And “How can I integrate that in my Computer Technology class?”

Did anyone else adopt the new Florida Wonders curriculum? We just adopted it this school year, and I teach 4th grade. My team and I have not found a good flow, schedule, or whatever you want to call it. We feel like it teaches too many skills in one lesson, and we are not able to truly teach anything “deep” enough for students to master. Does anyone have any insight? What do you do? Do you like the curriculum? Why or why not? Would you be willing to share what you do weekly/daily? Thanks!

What is your total “wedding look” budget/est. spend? (Everything including dress, make up, jewelry, shoes, outfit changes, accessories, etc.). I have put so much emphasis on my looks (no regrets) and I actually just tallied up my spend and my head almost exploded. I teach G&T 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. We are looking at the cogAT as a one form of ID, but cannot afford to test all of the students. Do you recommend testing some? At this age?

We do an after school club. I'm looking for a good interest inventory to help direct our activities this year. Any recommendations?

Gifted ELA and art happen at the same time at my school. A student wants to attend the art class and do their online ELA work at another time. Both teachers are fine with that, but admin said "no!"
How can the student's giftedness and IEP modifications be used to defend the teachers' choice to admin?

Has anyone else’s Corp cut services to G/T because of the pandemic? Mine has, and I am absolutely heartbroken for the kids. They need services now more than ever. However they keep hiring SpEd positions and offering more services for SoEd students because they say the need is greater. How can the needs for one end of the spectrum be greater than the other? Without laws, what can we do to ensure gifted students get the education they need and deserve? Suggestions?

I started an Independent Study project with my students. They are 7 and 8 year olds. They chose their own topics...and holy cow! We have Nikola Tesla, Fibonacci, history of guitars, coding, etc.

I teach high school gifted math. In my program, our gifted students are in self-contained gifted classes. Those in the same scenario, do you teach with the same textbook and curricula as non-gifted?
