I tend to get work from around 6 different partners. They all have their quirks or idiosyncrasies of course but only one partner will drive me up the wall with their behavior. I will send them a deliverable a week in advance and check with them every day as they request. Without fail they’ll ask me to stand by in the office to turn comments. I wait and wait and then it’s 8pm and they say sorry didn’t get to it today will send them first thing tomorrow. Then the cycle repeats until they cont.

Just go home. And in the 1% chance they do get it promptly, guess who had a “family emergency” but will be “back from the ER in 20 minutes”?

Why don’t you just leave the office…. They can send comments remotely lol

I was in a very similar situation a few years ago. Have to lateral LoL

like

I’d just casually swing by their office at around 6 pm to get a gauge for whether or not they expect to turn the comments that night or will need an extra day or whenever

just go home man

Just send it without reviewing it. Why am I being chained to my desk like this? They have never sent it the same day they said they would this happens every time. On days I don’t have work from this partner I am back home by 3pm, have gone to the gym, run errands and am working again to finish out my day.

Just venting. Tired of working so hard to come into the office and get my stuff done in a timely fashion and on the schedule requested of me to only be stuck for hours at a time for the same series of events to happen every time.

This sounds like the junior experience when I started at a v10. We had a running joke about doing “drive bys” past partner offices to confirm whether they were even still there, which meant we had to wait. And it wasn’t just one partner, it was essentially all. More power to you if you are able to find a way around it!

And kudos to you for doing anything non-work related at 3pm and actually making it to the gym. That was not my junior experience.

Bill it all.

Tried that. Got dinged and told I can’t do that.

I have joined a company on 4th Feb, through consultancy on contract to hire basis.
I only received the job offer letter from the consultancy, but no Appointment Letter is given yet.
So since it's 10-15 day, since I joined. Can I leave this company, since I've got a better offer, with my suitable location.
PS: I have also received the laptop, but didn't login or do anything yet.
Please help me, can I still leave the company? And return the laptop to them. Or I have to continue here itself?

For those who came to London thru their firm’s global mobility program, what sort of visa did you get? And was it a route to settlement? (IE did that time count towards getting ILR eventually)?

I left practice 12 years ago. I became the Director of International Programs at a law school, which was great for a while. But, the bureaucracy eventually got to me. While there, I started a podcast called The Lawyer’s Escape Pod, interviewing lawyers who’d switched careers. And that put me on my new path. I now coach lawyers who want to ditch the traditional work world and start creative or coaching businesses. Never been happier.

Went on a bachelorette trip where the maid of honor was very anal, she made us do bi-monthly check ins with slides/agenda/itinerary since last year. We even had to share outfit pictures of exactly what we would be wearing, we got a dress code (color, length of dress, types of accessories), how to make the bride stand out, and tips on how to take pictures a certain way to flatter the bride. Now she’s going to be joining my office too, im scared I’ll have to see her often and socialize

From a vault ranking perspective, is it safe to assume V100 is all sweatshop big law? Reason I ask is because I want to lateral but not to a gunning big law firm — want to stay in big law but not at the ones at the top of the food chain like I am now. I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!

I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up.
