I took on what seemed like a solid wrongful termination case—client was responsive, signed the retainer, we got the intake docs rolling… and now it’s been three weeks of radio silence. No returned emails, no calls, no updates. I’ve already invested time and energy getting things moving, and I’m torn between chasing them down or just letting it go. Is there a professional (but firm) way to nudge a ghosting client? Or do I cut my losses and move on?

Give them a gentle deadline—something like, “If I don’t hear from you by X date, I’ll assume you no longer wish to proceed.” People ghost for all kinds of reasons, and clear boundaries protect your time and their case. It’s frustrating, but it happens.

To add another perspective, the client may be struggling with depression and anxiety. Or perhaps there’s been an issue or misunderstanding in communications between the two of you.

I would do 3 nudges of compassionate but increasing firmness, before letting it go.

How do y’all deal with people at work who are stuck on stupid? Like they have no idea what they’re talking about and they REFUSE to learn. It’s like they have a god complex or something even with proof, maybe bc of their tenure at the company? Even if there’s valid data backing up that they’re wrong. Maybe it’s bc I’m a type 8 enneagram, but it frustrates the hell out of me!
So any advice would be lovely :)

For self employed: max SEP IRA/solo 401k->max roth IRA->max trad IRA->max HSA

Looking to change practice area to employment law - tips?

like

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?
