I took up this new job a few months ago. This was supposed ti be remote too and now i ve been asked to come in 3 times a week. I realised a few weeks in that there is no roadmap to this role. I left a perfectly remote job. I travel 4 hours a day to come sit in office and work on excel and ppt. Ive tried being proactive by asking for work but no response. I ve tried applying and get no response. Any references, pointers will be appreciated.

Any chance you can boomerang back to your old job/employer? I know it's not ideal, but it does happen quite frequently. The grass isn't always greener. If not, then I'd start actively looking and try to find another opportunity. That's bait and switch, and it sounds like they're underutilizing you. I'd be pissed.
