I was talking to one of my GM friends and he said this is one if the worst job markets he’s ever seen for managers but even for all levels in the restaurant industry. I’m really scared about losing my job even though I think I’m safe. My friends just got let go at different restaurants. Is it really as bad as I think or am I imagining things?

The job market is still on life support because of the Trump terrifs in Toronto Ontario. If you have a job, keep it and continue to look for greater opportunities in sectors that you aren't employed in, but your skills would transfer easily.

Yep - life support is the right way to put it. It really is horrible out there.

From what everyone seems to be saying, yeah, it's pretty bad. Anyone who has a job should try to hang on to it. People looking for work are complaining that no one is hiring. Every news story about the economy talks about how uncertain everything is, and that's the whole story. Establishments are just hesitant to hire anyone with the economy sliding downward.

During his administration, Barrack Obama stated that the middle class is disappearing. Others said that as well. I agree. The middle class supports much of the economy as a percentage of their earnings. I believe a lot of the revenue losses will remain as such . There is a vast spread of wealth that is being split down the middle, one extreme richer, and the other extreme poorer. Even other countries are protesting the mostly American billionaires with their super yachts pulling into port, burning voluminous fuel amounts and localizing carbon emissions for a mere handful of people on board . They don't want them around . I don't know what the answer is, I hope some day the American population of voters will see the value of a multi-partisan government rather than just a bi-partisan government. We need new values on Capital Hill to be sprouting.

Not imagining things. It's rough out there. I'm trying not to let it stress me out too much, but I know my restaurant isn't doing as well as it did last year. I don't think I'm going to get fired or anything, but it's still concerning. Really hoping things pick up over the next few months.

Ah you can actually tell sales is down from last year? I agree - my place is also not doing as well as last year. I don’t know if it will get better anytime soon though. It’s confusing because the news keeps saying how the economy is good…

Someone on LinkedIn expressed disappointment about the lack of diversity from the big law firms in TX that were posting pics of their summer associates. A managing partner commented that he thought the post might be about a pic he posted (12/14 SAs were white). He tried to defend this by saying that they had LGBT and socioeconomic diversity. The fact that he recognized that his pic might be part of the problem says it all. Law firms need to do better. Sorry, I just wanted to rant.

Has anyone here participated in the year long remote year program? My company is fully remote in the US and is in general supportive of me going but concerned about local and international tax liability. Remote year doesn’t share tax advice and our HR team is small. Curious to hear from people at companies who have done it before and if there were any issues from a tax or payroll perspective. Trying to get the formal approval from my company before officially signing up, advice welcome!

Can anyone of you please help in calculating how much will be my income tax per month(I am availing the Old tax regime)? Different IT calculators show different figures, not sure which is correct :(

And as for the interest amount in the Savings Account and Fixed Deposits, do both fall under "Income from Interest"? Or under "Other Income"? Or does Interest amount in Savings account fall under "Interest from Deposits - 80TTA"?

The figures are given in the screenshot 👇🏻

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
