I work at a restaurant so obviously I have to go into work, but sometimes I wish I could do some of the paperwork from home. That’s just frowned upon at our restaurant so I go in to do things like time cards or ordering online etc. Do you ever get to WFH in a restaurant environment?

Have you brought that up with your supervisors? Post-COVID, our managers get one WFH day/week, alternating so someone’s always on-site. Plenty of admin can be done remotely (scheduling/payroll, orders, menu costing, marketing/reviews, reservations, reporting, hiring). Guardrails: Tue–Wed only, online 9–3, clear deliverables, on-call to return within 60 minutes; no WFH on peak days.

Oooh that’s an interesting way to put it - on call within 60min. That might actually work because my GM is always worried of a sudden rush.

We have a manager who often works from home. She does the bookkeeping, pays bills, and takes care of other business matters. But for most of us there's no way to do what we do without being present and in motion.

That’s nice she has that luxury. Definitely the minority for us too. We have to come in.

I wish I could, but it's obviously impossible for me. I think the only people who are able to on occasion would be managers or higher ups like yourself. And even then, they still have to be on site the majority of the time.

Yeah for sure. I envy those who can WFH a lot…

Looking for a SFH (that isn’t soullessly modern) in the 600-700k range that will suit our interests: walk to a grocery store, maybe a restaurant or two, commute to work in <30 min. Where should we look?

Does anyone know what these black dots are?

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?

I work as an AGM in a busy restaurant. Been working there for just over a year, and haven't had a single raise. I now only make 0.50 cents more than even the lowest paid shift lead but I am doing a lot more work. I'm no longer satisfied with these conditions. Should I try to negotiate a raise or look for other opportunities?

If I should negotiate, any tips?

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.
