I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. He’s leaning transactional, but also open to litigation. Any insights/advice on these firms in the TX market? Any to avoid?

Service design seems a popular role in consulting in the past year or so, certainly seeing more grads go down this route. Is there much overlap with business analysis? When I’ve worked with service designers the output seems to be another version of a process map, are there other skills and experience needed? Even without LinkedIn, I see a lot of people younger than me in much better roles. They started off with relevant jobs right out of college. I graduated in 2009 when the economy tanked and worked in retail for years before I was finally able to land in corporate. Does anybody else struggle with this as well? Consulting is a serial offender for crazy decks. Is anyone else fed up of being asked to format other people's messy ugly decks 😑 like seriously it's not that hard, I'm not your personal DTP.

Accenture employs 700,000+, Deloitte has 400,000+, EY/PWC/KPMG are all 250,000+. How can you not feel like just another employee ID #?

So what are some of the best boutique consultancies (with at least some scale, so let's say 250+ consultants) where you can feel like you actually make a difference? And the firms get the same level of respect as their larger counterparts?

What are some examples of exit opportunities for a software engineer in consulting? I don’t necessarily want to move into a SE role at a tech firm. I enjoy a lot of the people aspects of my role - agile coaching etc.

For hiring a senior leader on your team, would you place higher value on a PMP cert or Six Sigma certification?
