Hello RSM coworkers! I am thrilled to be moving to RSM into a Scheduler roll. I just found out yesterday and want to be as prepared as possible in the next steps.
So here are my questions.
How long does the background study take? I'm guessing admin staff have a study that is faster and less complicated than someone in Tax ect.
When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.
Thanks in advance!

Some of our offices come close to achieving this. We still travel to clients when appropriate / necessary, but they are often located close by.
I know some boutique firms tout no to low travel even more so.
With telework becoming more and more prevalent, are there really any non-ideological barriers to remote delivery besides client desires to see butts in seat during an engagement?
Obviously hard engagements like tech implementations would still need butts in seats, but for strategy engagements and other soft engagements, I can't see why it couldn't work from a feasibility standpoint. Maybe have the team or at least engagement leads be onsite during engagement kickoff and closeout, then the rest from the home office.
Just an idle thought on my part, since I'm currently industry and out of the consulting game. My org is national and my team members are spread all across the US. Of the 13 staff on my team, I've met all of 2 of 'em in person over the past 2 years I've been in this position, which got me to thinking about the feasibility of remote consulting work.
Would be hard for pre close M&A work that moves quickly and being in person with the client tends to get stuff done faster. Post close, your proposal would work.
I worked at a global public relations firm. Think: have you ever seen pr, advertising, or law firm people camped out in a client cafeteria? You absolutely can deliver effective counsel from your own company's office.
Had a tech implementation project where client did not want the team to travel every week; was very clear that since his team was distributed/remote across multiple states, we should be too.
We had to provide a written rationale for any/all travel before he would pay for it. He didn’t care about butts in chairs/optics. He wanted to make sure that all in-person meetings/travel were truly necessary and something that could not be accomplished via phone/video conference
There is one in Boston like this with no central office. I like the office in a larger firm.
Yeah, I know there are regional/local firms out there that do no/low travel. I'm thinking more of a global firm along the lines of a B4 or MBB, for example--could they ever feasibly switch to a no/low travel model?
Sure, it'd change pricing dynamics and all that, but could the business model itself work?
Sc2, makes sense!
Will also be affected by whether your clients are followers, fast followers or leaders. When doing similar work again, much easier to not have a traveling team. Doing work with huge unknowns, bringing people with different expertise together is more important.
Big implementation is easily done remote, no reason to have much staff at a client except their need to see butts in seats.
