If a manager straight-up yells at you in a meeting, do you call it out in the moment or stay quiet and deal with it later? What actually protects your career more? This happened to me for the first time today and I am shocked since usually she isn’t like this.

I'm sorry that happened. Probably best to deal with it later with cooler heads. Honestly though hr never really deals with anything, so not sure you will get any resolution you are happy with.

HR is unhelpful at my company. I’ve heard from other coworkers unfortunately :(

Later in a one-on-one. Let temper cool down and have a fact based conversation. Try to understand by asking the right questions.

If it's the first time it happened, I'd let it go. Everybody loses their cool once in a while. It's probably best to let time calm things down. If it becomes a persistent problem, that would be different. In that case you'll need to deal with it.

I was shocked since after yelling, I continued to present and at the end of the meeting she thanked me for preparing the documents.

Deal with it later

Handle it after the fact. Aside from the yelling, your biggest issue with this should be having it done in front of your colleagues. As such, you don't want to essentially do the same thing to them.

Yes I was more shocked then embarrassed then it happened since it was out of no where

I would either let it go or bring it up when it’s just the two of you and ask what you need to do differently to ensure something like that doesn’t happen again. That way, it doesn’t feel like a total attack on the manager and hopefully helps them open up/warm up to you

Hi Sharks 🦈,

Need some suggestions: My current company is on a layoff spree and 2 rounds are already done and I can foresee another round coming very soon.

While I am trying to switch to other companies, I’m not able to reveal the real reason from my side for the job change, as if I say, it’s because of layoff fears than it’ll reduce my negotiation power.

What other reasons can I give as I’ve just completed 9 months here and it’s too soon for any other company to take me in.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Does anybody know what the typical salary range is and total comp for someone starting out as an internal or external wholesaler? If you are one of these, can you share about your experience in terms of whether you liked it or not, work life balance, travel, etc?
